Eileen Molloy/Michael Ryan Take Joe Doran Cup

Eileen Molloy and Michael Ryan were victorious in the annual Joe Doran Cup competition at Nenagh LTC recently.  Eileen and Michael defeated Bernie Shanahan and Michael Molloy in the final. 

Michael Doran, son of the late Joe Doran, attended the finals.  Michael was welcomed to the club by Nenagh LTC President Liam Dwan.  Michael presented the cup and prizes to the finalists. 

It was a final in which the Cup was always going end up in the Molloy household as Eileen and Michael Molloy are husband and wife.  A delighted Eileen secured the bragging rights on this occasion.

Michael Ryan was no doubt also thrilled to win.  It was a comeback for Michael as we have not seen him on court now for a few years.  This was actually his third time to win the Joe Doran.  He joins Ber Kavanagh as a 3 time winner.  There may be others who have won on 3 occasions.  We’ll check the cup and report next week.  Meanwhile, we wonder will Ber make a comeback in 2011?

Well done to Michael Molloy and Bernie Shanahan on an excellent final which unfortunately for them went the other way.  Michael was featuring in his first tennis final in the club.  Bernie is an experienced campaigner, invariably featuring in the finals stages of events.  Both of them will certainly be back.

Loreto Moloney/Ger McKenna Win Dolores Cahalan Cup

The second running of the 2010 Dolores Cahahan Cup took place at Nenagh from Wed 14^th – Fri 16^th April.  Loreto Moloney and Ger McKenna emerged as 2010 winners, triumphing over Helena Darcy and Sean Dunne in the final.  

This was again a successful event, one which Dolores herself would be delighted to be part of.  The competition was run alongside the Joe Doran Cup event over 3 enjoyable nights at the club.

All 4 finalists feature regularly at the business end of competitions at the club and gave us a great final.  Well done to Loreto and Ger on a great win.  And about Helena and Sean we say, as we said about the runners-up in the Joe Doran Cup, ‘they will certainly be back’.

The Dolores Cahalan Cup was presented to the club in 2009 by David Cahalan in memory of his late wife Dolores.  Mary Gavin and Jim Murphy were the first winners. 

Nenagh LTC President Liam Dwan welcomed all present at the 2010 finals, and thanked all who participated in the competition and contributing to a very enjoyable 3 nights of tennis.  He also thanked the Cahalan family. David Cahalan presented the 2010 winners with their prizes.
