Ger Gavin Home Interiors Junior Club Week Tennis Finals

 

The 2010 Junior Club Championships at Nenagh LTC were held last week.  Ger Gavin’s Home Interiors, Sarsfield St, Nenagh were the generous sponsors of the championships which began on Monday 16^th August and concluded following a very successful tournament on Thursday last 19^th.

Liam Dwan, President of Nenagh LTC, speaking for all at the presentation on Thursday evening, thanked Benny Gavin for his very generous sponsorship of the tournament.

There was a fine entry in the tournament, especially in the lower age groups and a particularly noteworthy aspect was a very obvious increase in tennis standards in all age groups, a fact echoed by Liam at the presentation ceremony.   

Among those to whom Liam paid compliments were Mary Ryan, Tournament Referee, and tournament secretary Margaret Folan, without whose work the event could not take place.  And while we are on the matter of expressing compliments, we should thank Liam himself for the BBQ on finals day.  A very welcome and tasty BBQ indeed to cheer us up on a wet day.    

The tournament was a personal triump for Alice Murphy who won all 3 events available to her at U.12 level, - singles after a particularly long final match with Patrice Cleary who undoubtedly will climb the winner’s podium on another occasion, doubles (with Ciara Dwan) and Mixed (with Peter Folan). 

Triona Cleary was in 3 finals, winning 2 of them.  Triona won the U.14 singles and doubles ( with Ciara Dunne).  Ciara Dunne also won the mixed final (with Thomas Conway), with Triona and David Gleeson runners-up here.
