  Munster Winter Tennis League 2010

(Sponsored by Corus Steel Service Centre, Tivoli, Cork)

 Two Titles for Nenagh LTC

These are heady times for Nenagh tennis teams in Munster inter-club tennis.  Following last summer’s unprecedented success in Munster summer competitions, Nenagh has opened the new season impressively by winning 2 prestigious Munster Winter League titles at the League Finals Day at Sunday’s Well LTC on Sunday last.

Congratulations to Tim O’Brien (Capt), Liam O’Kelly, Catherine Gibson and Valerie Cotter who combined to win the Division IV title at the expense of an accomplished Carrigaline team.  Pat Cleary and Loreto Moloney also featured on this team during the campaign.

Congratulation also to Liam Dwan (Capt), Conor O’Meara, Margaret Harty and Liadhan Hassett on their win in the Division V over a fine team representing Bandon LTC.

There was a runner-up award for the club also.  Nenagh’s Division III team had to give best to an excellent Crosshaven side in their final.  We extend congratulations to Crosshaven.

Nenagh’s Division III team was David Goulding, Tom Gallahue, Helena Darcy and Mary Slattery.  All these players have been on the victory podium before and undoubtedly will be there again.

Nenagh of course have reached 4 Winter League finals this spring.  The Division II final between Nenagh and St Anne’s Waterford had to be postponed due to Nenagh’s Gail O’Meara being selected for the Irish International Veterans Team which travelled to Mexico last weekend.  The final is expected to take place on the weekend of Sunday 18th April, although not confirmed as yet.

Congratulations also to Monaleen Tennis Club in Limerick which won it’s first Munster Inter Club title on Sunday winning the Division VI title.

Finally, there was a great crowd of Nenagh members in Cork on Sunday supporting the teams and the various teams wish to express their sincere thanks to all for travelling.   It was a long day, especially when it extends into the night as we believe it did.  At least it was back in Nenagh.
