Slattery Tiles Senior Club Week Results

The Slattery Tiles sponsored Club Championships at Nenagh LTC last week attracted a large entry of members who played out a very enjoyable week of tennis which culminated with the finals on Saturday night last, followed by BBQ and social event in the clubhouse.

Nenagh LTC President Anne Marie Darcy welcomed Conor and Loreto Slattery to the club for the finals on Saturday and in her presentation speech thanked them for their generous sponsorship of the tournament.

Anne Marie also complimented referee Brid Coffey and her tournament committee for once again running a successful tournament.

There were many interesting finals on view, with Nick Flannery being the most successful player of the tournament. Nick won 3 titles, the Gr 1/2 mens doubles with Frank O’Keeffe, the Gr 3 doubles with Brian McGahey and the Gr 3 mixed with Patrice Cleary.

Nick could have felt somewhat compromised in the Gr 1/2 final as his opponents were his father Donal (and Oisin Fahy), but he showed little sympathy for the older but experienced ‘senior’ en route to the title.

It was a family affair also in 2 other finals. Conor Fahy won the top mens singles title overcoming the challenge of his brother Oisin in the final.   And Aine McCarthy confirmed her position as ‘head of the household’ when (with Brian McGahey) defeating husband Michael Gilmartin (and Triona Dunne) in the the Gr 3 mixed final.

Sharon Young was also almost unbeatable in her grade. The Templederry lady won ladies doubles (with Gemma Flynn) and mixed (with John Ryan) and was runner-up to Claire Ley in singles.

Brian McGahey and Frank O’Keeffe each recorded 2 successes. Both partnered the aforementioned Nick Flannery to titles and then won respective mixed titles, Frank with Caroline White and Brian with aforementioned Aine McCarthy.

And ever reliable Portroe man John Sheedy again stepped up to the winner’s rostrum, twice, winning a mens double title (with Liam Dwan) and the handicapped mixed title with Wendy Gallahue who doubtless brought some of that unbeatable ‘black and amber’ spirit to the proceedings.

Munster Summer Cup Champions – Ladies Grade 6

Sunday saw the Summer Cup Finals played out in Rushbrooke Tennis Club. Nenagh had 2 Teams represented in the Finals – Grade 5 Mixed comprising of George McGrath, Niall Healy, Lorraine Talbot and Fidelma Seymour. They were most unfortunate to miss out to Mallow in a closely fought Super Doubles. The team should be commended for stepping up at short notice at the Semi Final Stage and winning through to the finals (previous team of Agris Strods, Michael Kennedy, Kate Heduan and Sinead O’Meara).

Congratulations goes to our Ladies Grade 6 Team of Gemma Flynn, Sharon Young, Claire Ley and Doireann Kennedy who are Munster Summer Cup Champions 2015 beating out Monkstown . It’s been a long summer of competitions for those involved and for these 4 a very long week after their performances in Club Week! Thoroughly deserved Title Girls! Well done from all of Nenagh LTC.
