Very Enjoyable President’s Prize Event

By Tim Conway, for the Guardian

The always popular President’s Prize competition (this year kindly sponsored by Tony Cahill Jewellers, Nenagh & Tullamore) concluded on Friday last following 3 nights of very enjoyable tennis.

At the presentation, 2016 Club President Margaret Folan thanked all those who contributed to creating a fantastic atmosphere in the club over the 3 days of the competition. The voluntary efforts of so many resulted in a thoroughly enjoyable competition for players and spectators alike – thanks to all!!!

The competition, essentially a social competition, nevertheless threw up some great matches, with some good natured banter.  However Club caption David Hackett was surely remiss in not reprimanding Kilkenny lady Wendy Gallahue for forsaking standard tennis attire for appearing in a (now worthless) black and amber outfit.  Only jesting of course, and no doubt Wendy will be, with Assumpta O’Kelly, in congratulatory mode these next few weeks, both no doubt warning us of the dangers of a wounded cat.

But that is in the future and for now, from one sport to another, we (Wendy and Assumpta included) heartily congratulate the Tipperary Senior and Minor hurlers and backroom staff on their all Ireland successes.

Nenagh now have 3 teams into the Summer Cup finals to be hosted by Limerick Lawn (so not too far to travel for club supporters!)

Well done to the Ladies Grade 6, Grade 5 Mixed A and the Grade 1 Mixed Teams who will compete for titles on the 25th September.
